Prime Theatre, Winchester's newest theatre company, formally launched their company on Wednesday 5th September, 2007 with a 1930's tea dance. The afternoon was a huge success, with about 60 people, many dressed in glamorous 1930's frocks and suits, enjoying the occassion, with music and dancing, along with tea and cakes provided by "Nippies".
Prime Theatre was honoured by the attendance of two of their patrons: celebrated theatre, film and TV stars Edward Woodward and Michele Dotrice. Edward Woodward proposed the toast "Prime Theatre", in which he praised Prime Theatre's founders for their great ideas and hard work; Michele Dotrice cut the Prime Theatre cake, and Gavin Stride, a member of The South East Regional Arts Council - which provided support funding to Prime Theatre -commended Prime Theatre for their initiative, and strongly recommended that they apply for more support funding in future. Gavin commented that The Creative Arts industry was now one of the biggest sectors of the economy, and initiatives such as Prime Theatre helped keep the industry alive and strong.
Prime Theatre's founders, Peter and Ros Liddiard, gave short speeches of thanks for all the help and support that they have received.
